UNITED24 fundraising platform has already been functioning for a year: almost UAH 1.4 billion was raised to meet healthcare needs
On 5 May last year, due to a full-scale russian invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the launch of a fundraising platform UNITED24 to support Ukraine.
So, for 12 months, almost UAH 1.4 billion was raised to meet the needs of healthcare (as of 05.05.2023). The funds are transferred to a special account of the National Bank of Ukraine assigned to the Ministry of Health.
People from 110 countries supported Ukrainian doctors. Transfers even exceeded UAH 33, 146 and 183 million per day! The whole world donates: international and Ukrainian businesses, international charities, public figures, and opinion leaders from different countries, who, by the way, often become ambassadors of the platform. So, the ambassadors of the “Medical Aid” direction were: singer and actress Barbra Streisand, Imagine Dragons band, American actor Liev Schreiber, astronaut Scott Kelly, and outstanding Ukrainian athletes Elina Svitolina and Andrii Shevchenko. They help raise funds for medical equipment and ambulances that save the lives of Ukrainians.
During this time, by the decision of the relevant commission of the Ministry of Health, Medical Procurement of Ukraine purchased the following for the funds raised within the framework of UNITED24:
- 35 artificial lung ventilation devices (transport);
- 13 armored evacuation vehicles;
- 83 anesthetic (anesthetic and respiratory) devices;
- 81 operating tables;
- 176 Type C reanimobiles;
- 28 artificial lung ventilation devices for children;
- 22 X-ray units with C-arch;
- 172 devices of vacuum therapy of wounds;
- 7,954 external fixing devices;
- 637 generators;
- 4 microscopes for neurosurgery;
- 34 rehabilitation simulators;
- 14 ultrasound machines;
- 98,982 chemical heating pads;
- 442 functional beds.
The restoration of two healthcare facilities has also begun. Namely: Municipal non-commercial enterprise "Chernihiv City Hospital No. 3" received UAH 13.88 million for the restoration (major repairs of the X-ray department), which was partially destroyed as a result of military operations. Also, UAH 26.78 million was allocated for the restoration of Chernihiv Medical Center of Modern Oncology.
According to these statistics, there are thousands of saved lives of Ukrainians. Here are just a few stories: CCT ambulance vehicle helped save an 11-year-old girl in Sumy – she carried her one- and four-year-old brother and sister out of the burning house in her arms; chemical heating pads were transferred to Zaporizhzhia hospital – they were needed during the evacuation of seriously wounded people from the Zaporizhzhia direction of the front in the cold season, receiving the next anesthetic and respiratory device allowed the Novomoskovsk hospital in the Dnipropetrovsk region to equip another operating room and do more surgical interventions, both planned and urgent, using inhaled anesthetics (as you know, Dnipropetrovsk region is a frontline region)...
“A donate through UNITED24 is support for Ukraine in the struggle for its freedom and freedom as a value in general. This initiative is a precedent! It has managed to unite people from all over the world (from more than 110 countries)! During the year, more than UAH 1.39 billion was raised in the medical field! According to the government decree, funds are allocated for the purchase of medical support (medical equipment, transport), restoration and modernization of healthcare institutions. The decision on the use of funds is made by a commission established under the Ministry of Health. A mechanism for earmarked contributions is also envisaged. Audits are also conducted regarding compliance with the procedure for using funds. Expense reports and, accordingly, purchases reports are updated regularly. So, having united our efforts, together to Victory!” says Mariia Karchevych, Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development.
We are grateful to all those who are not indifferent to the support of Ukrainian doctors: https://u24.gov.ua/uk
