Ukrainians Affected by War Can Receive Medical Treatment Abroad
For more than two years of full-scale war, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, together with the European Commission, WHO, and other partners, has been organizing evacuation flights for injured Ukrainians to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation abroad.
In total, thanks to this cooperation, more than 5,000 Ukrainians have been evacuated, including patients with mine-blast injuries, those in need of prosthetics, and cancer patients. There are also about 700 children with injuries and cancer among the evacuees.
To date, more than 30 countries have already accepted Ukrainians for treatment, including Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, and others.
Among the countries that accepted the most Ukrainian citizens for treatment:
- Germany — 1230 people,
- Poland — 426 people,
- Norway — 373 people.
Patients are referred for treatment abroad by their attending physician or GP based on established criteria. To confirm compliance with the criteria, you need to ask your doctor for a filled-in form No. 027/о "Medical record of an outpatient (inpatient) patient".
Then, according to the evacuation algorithm, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine verifies the data and promptly informs the EU and European Economic Area countries about the need to evacuate Ukrainian citizens through the European Commission's emergency response system. Partners accept the request of the Ministry of Health and provide proposals for the evacuation of citizens. The criteria for sending Ukrainians for treatment abroad can be found here.
Please note that there are several routes for medical evacuation for treatment abroad:
- through the regional health department;
- by submitting a personal application through the website of the Ministry of Health in the "Citizens" section;
- for military personnel — by applying for evacuation abroad through the command of the Medical Forces of Ukraine.
