Viktor Liashko Discussed Further Coordination of European Integration Efforts with WHO and the EU Delegation
Ukraine’s Minister of Health Viktor Liashko held a coordination meeting with representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Ukraine and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers Maryna Slobodnichenko and Mariia Karchevych; representatives of the WHO Country Office in Ukraine, Jarno Habicht, Dean Cairns, and Olha Shevchenko; and Myroslava Didukh, Health and Social Policy Sector Coordinator at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
The participants discussed the current state of Ukraine’s implementation of its European integration commitments in the health sector, including the relevant benchmarks and measures set out in the plan for aligning national legislation with EU law.
“European integration remains one of our key priorities. In this context, it is essential for us to strengthen coordination with the WHO and the European Union, build a shared understanding of our priorities, and align on the next steps. This will help ensure the consistent implementation of our European integration commitments and facilitate the timely provision of the expert support we need,”
To this end, the parties agreed to strengthen coordination between the Ministry of Health, the WHO, and the EU Delegation, in particular through holding regular meetings. During these meetings, they will coordinate progress on the implementation of tasks in each area, identify in a timely manner issues requiring additional expertise or decisions at the political level, and agree on further steps.
