University of Greifswald (Germany) and Chernihiv Regional Psychoneurological Hospital (Ukraine)

The collaboration between the institutions began on May 9, 2024, during the Second International Summit of Cities and Regions and continued with the official visit of the German delegation to the Chernihiv region on May 10, 2024.

The partnership was formally established through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in October 2024. It is focused on the development of psychotherapeutic practices and the improvement of medical services for patients with traumatic experiences. The key areas of cooperation include:

  • Training and supervision:
Implementation of educational programs in interpersonal therapy, enabling Ukrainian professionals to acquire new knowledge and skills in patient care. Supervision is a core element of this process, ensuring support and knowledge exchange among psychotherapists.

  • Workshops and thematic sessions:
Participation in workshops covering a range of topics, such as:

  • Fundamentals of case formulation: setting goals and asking the right questions

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) methods for adolescents

  • Involving families in therapy

  • Rebuilding trust: developing interpersonal resources

  • Treatment of patients with trauma histories:
Special focus on treating both civilian and military patients who have experienced trauma. This includes the development of individualized approaches to therapy and rehabilitation.

  • Experience exchange:
Active collaboration between specialists from both institutions, allowing Ukrainian clinicians to integrate international best practices into their work.

  • Future initiative planning:
While a concrete plan for the following year has not yet been finalized, both parties are committed to ongoing cooperation and participation in new sessions and joint activities.

This collaboration is a significant step in the development of psychiatric care in Ukraine. It supports the adoption of modern therapeutic methods, enhances the qualifications of healthcare professionals, and creates new opportunities to improve the quality of mental health services for patients in the Chernihiv region.
