Ukraine is implementing the first project in Eastern Europe to treat severely wounded soldiers using AI
On November 4, the WINWIN Summit 2025: The Power of Innovations was held in Kyiv, bringing together representatives from government institutions, businesses, academia, and international organizations to determine the next steps in developing Ukraine's innovation potential.
During the event, international cooperation agreements were signed to support the implementation of the WINWIN Digital Innovation Development Strategy. These included a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Feofaniia Clinical Hospital, and GutSee Health Limited, focusing on the development of innovative medical technologies.
As part of this cooperation, Ukraine will become the first country in Eastern Europe to test AI-powered phage therapy technology. This technology uses artificial intelligence to select viruses capable of targeting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The innovation holds significant promise for the treatment of Ukrainian military personnel and veterans with severe injuries, providing a faster, more accessible, and cost-efficient alternative to conventional treatment methods.

The launch of the MedTech Sandbox marks another significant milestone in Ukraine’s efforts to modernize its healthcare system by creating a secure environment for testing cutting-edge medical technologies in healthcare settings. The initiative will enable new solutions to be tested in hospitals, in full compliance with safety regulations, ethical oversight, and personal data protection standards. It is expected to speed up the implementation of advanced technologies in the healthcare system and expand access for patients.
For reference, Ukraine's WINWIN Digital Innovation Development Strategy until 2030 identifies 14 priority areas, including MedTech (medical technologies), BioTech (biotechnologies), and AI (artificial intelligence).
