The Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of Sweden signed a memorandum of cooperation

During the official visit of the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko to the Kingdom of Sweden, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden.

Its main goal is to continue cooperation in the healthcare sector and create a framework for its strengthening. The parties are expected to work together to overcome the negative consequences in the healthcare sector and counter the challenges provoked by the full-scale war, and to promote Ukraine’s further integration into the European Union.

Ukraine and Sweden will develop cooperation in the following priority areas:

  • public health, prevention, modernization and sustainable development of health care systems, as well as Ukraine’s integration into the health care system of the European Union;
  • assistance in the implementation of projects to build rehabilitation centers, manufacture prosthetic devices, and construct and modernize medical infrastructure damaged/destroyed as a result of the war;
  • improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services, promoting capacity building through professional development of healthcare personnel and transfer of knowledge, exchange of experience and best practices in areas such as medical management, digitalization of healthcare, including telemedicine services, crisis preparedness, mental health, rehabilitation, prosthetics and orthotics, prevention and control of non-communicable and communicable diseases and infections, antimicrobial resistance, prevention and treatment of cancer, sexual and reproductive health;
  • improving treatment and rehabilitation programs (including mental health) for Ukrainian citizens affected by russian aggression;
  • cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals, including the exchange of experience in clinical trials and state registration of medicines, application of regulatory solutions for quality control, development of opportunities to supply products to mutual markets, and development of the regulatory framework.

Various forms of cooperation are envisaged, including international medical partnerships, cooperation between Ukrainian and Swedish medical schools to develop modern educational programs in accordance with international standards, development of exchange programs for teachers and researchers, cooperation between national agencies, and promotion of cooperation between various healthcare actors, such as the private sector and non-governmental organizations in Ukraine and Sweden.
