The first University Hospital of the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is launched
The first University Hospital of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (LNMU) has recently opened. Currently, it consists of 10 inpatient departments and 22 structural units. In total, there are 280 beds: 140 surgical beds and 140 therapeutic beds. More than 5,000 patients have already signed declarations with doctors. Medical care at the hospital is provided free of charge to patients under the Medical Guarantee Program (MGP).
At the same time, work is underway to restore the functioning of the hospital’s gynecology and ophthalmology departments. By the end of this year, with the support of the Ministry of Health, the hospital will receive additional equipment, including an angiograph and a new magnetic resonance imaging scanner. This will make it possible to provide high-quality medical care for heart attacks and strokes, open new departments and conclude contracts for additional packages of medical services under the MGP. This year, the University Hospital has concluded contracts under the MGP for 14 out of 17 planned packages of medical services:
- Surgical operations for adults and children in inpatient settings.
- Inpatient care for adults and children without surgery.
- Prevention, diagnosis, observation, and treatment on an outpatient basis.
- Hysteroscopy.
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
- Colonoscopy.
- Cystoscopy.
- Bronchoscopy.
- Inpatient palliative care for adults and children.
- Mobile palliative care for adults and children.
- Dental care.
- Pregnancy management on an outpatient basis.
- Surgical operations for adults and children in inpatient one-day surgery settings.
- Support and treatment of adults and children with mental disorders at the primary level of medical care.
In early August, the medical institution will resume training for 20 interns of LNMU. At the same time, work will begin on the arrangement of premises for university departments and student classes. So, shortly, the hospital will organize an educational process, involving specialized clinical departments with experienced practitioners. This will facilitate the introduction of the latest medical technologies and modern treatment methods. The hospital will become a center of excellence with highly qualified specialists. They will perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical procedures and apply a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
It should be recalled that the University Hospital is the first multidisciplinary medical institution in Ukraine to be combined with an educational institution. It was established based on the Lviv Clinical Hospital on Railway Transport, which was transferred to the state ownership and management of LNMU at the end of 2023. At the same time, LNMU is working on expanding the network of university hospitals: recently, the Lviv Regional Council decided to transfer the integral property complex of the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital to state ownership free of charge.
