Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Hennadii Nersesian held a meeting with representatives of the Czech Development Agency and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine. The parties discussed the implementation of a joint investment project aimed at restoring and modernizing Ukrainian hospitals, including upgrading their infrastructure and equipping them with modern medical equipment.

“We are sincerely grateful to the Czech Republic for its continued support of Ukraine, especially amid Russia's full-scale invasion. We highly value our cooperation, which covers the urgent needs of the healthcare system, the restoration of medical infrastructure, and long-term investment in its development. Projects like these will help modernize Ukrainian hospitals, improve their equipment and facilities, and create better conditions for providing medical care to patients.”
said Hennadii Nersesian.

The initiative is being implemented by the Czech Republic under the European Union's Ukraine Facility programme and aims to modernize 13 healthcare facilities across seven regions of Ukraine. The first phase will focus on upgrading six hospitals in the Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Lviv, and Rivne regions. The total project cost is €100.7 million, with financing expected to include grants, loans, and technical assistance.

The project includes the reconstruction and renovation of hospitals, infrastructure upgrades, and the purchase of modern medical equipment. Particular attention will be given to strengthening inpatient rehabilitation services, for which demand has increased significantly as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed progress in preparing the projects for the first six hospitals. Detailed investment proposals have already been prepared for three facilities, while those for the remaining three are nearing completion. These documents outline the planned works, the equipment to be purchased, and the funding required.

The next step will be to review and approve the proposals. The Ministry of Health will work with relevant specialists to ensure that the projects reflect the needs of each hospital and take into account investments already made or planned. This will help prevent duplication of funding and direct resources towards the most urgent needs of healthcare facilities. Once the project documentation has been approved, the Czech partners will be able to proceed to the next stages of implementation, including the procurement of medical equipment.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine continues its systematic cooperation with international partners to attract investment in the restoration and modernization of hospitals, upgrade medical equipment, and improve access to quality healthcare for people across Ukraine.
