russia damaged more than 1,500 medical facilities and destroyed another 195
In nearly two years of full-scale war, russia has damaged 1,501 medical facilities and destroyed another 195. Of these, 474 have already been fully restored, and another 383 have been partially rebuilt or are in the process of being restored.
“For more than 22 months of full-scale war, russia has been violating all norms of international humanitarian law and conventions, terrorizing civilians and targeting Ukrainian hospitals and outpatient clinics. This way, the aggressor country causes losses and puts an additional burden on Ukraine’s medical system. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Health and its partners are doing everything possible to ensure that the healthcare industry not only survives, but continues to work for our patients. Even in such difficult circumstances as the war, Ukrainians should have unimpeded access to the necessary medical services,” said Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko.
It should be noted that as a result of shelling and bombardment, medical facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts suffered the greatest losses. Information on Luhansk oblast is currently not available in full.
In addition, since the beginning of the war, the russian army has damaged 103 ambulances, destroyed 253 vehicles, and captured another 125 ambulances.
However, as of early January 2024, Ukraine has already managed to restore most medical facilities in the de-occupied territories, as well as those that suffered minor damage, such as broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc. In particular, most of the restored medical facilities are located in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv oblasts.
It should be recalled that the Ministry of Health recently announced the reopening of the Balakliia Center of Primary Health Care in Kharkiv oblast.
