Primary healthcare outpatient clinic in the Kyiv region has been rebuilt after occupation and has resumed operations
The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Liashko, together with the Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, visited the restored outpatient clinic of general practice family medicine in the village of Bohdanivka, Brovary district, Kyiv oblast (region). The healthcare facility was fully rebuilt with the support of the French charitable foundation Mécénat Servier, a partner of UNITED24.
This medical facility is critically important to the region, as it provides primary healthcare access to residents of the entire Bohdanivka starosta district within the Velyka Dymerka territorial community. It serves the villages of Bohdanivka, Zalissia, and 28 neighboring cottage communities, which were left without medical services before de-occupation due to destroyed infrastructure.
In 2022, during active hostilities and the temporary occupation of the territory, the outpatient clinic building sustained severe damage: the roof was destroyed, windows and doors were broken, and the heating system, electrical network, and other internal infrastructure were severely damaged.
“When we first arrived at the clinic, there was nothing left. After the occupation, our cardiographs, glucometers, and tonometers all disappeared. What remained was broken.”
Despite challenging conditions, doctors continued to assist community residents. In 2025 alone, 7,348 patients received medical care, including 724 children. Services provided included consultations with family doctors, laboratory diagnostics, ECG examinations, administration of preventive vaccinations for both children and adults, and mental health support.
With the support of Mécénat Servier under the UNITED24 initiative, the outpatient clinic has been completely renovated. The project included a comprehensive overhaul of the building, with the roof and facade restored, windows and doors replaced, interior premises refurbished, and all engineering systems—electricity, water supply, and heating—fully rehabilitated. Additionally, the clinic's surrounding area was redesigned to enhance convenience for both patients and staff.
Furthermore, with support from the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation, Enabel, the outpatient clinic was provided with modern medical equipment and office furniture for workstations and administrative areas.
“The full-scale war continues to inflict systemic damage on Ukraine's healthcare infrastructure: more than 2,500 healthcare facilities have been damaged, 328 of which have been completely destroyed. According to the latest estimates, the approximate cost of restoring the system over the next ten years exceeds USD 19 billion. Despite these circumstances, our priority remains maintaining access to healthcare services for the population. As of today, 725 facilities have been completely restored, and another 324 are currently undergoing reconstruction. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Mécénat Servier Foundation, Enabel, and UNITED24 for their support in restoring the clinic in Bohdanivka, which will enable the facility to operate at full capacity and continue providing medical care.”
At the same time, the medical facility has joined the implementation of the national program “Health Screening 40+.” As a result, residents of the community aged 40 years and above will have access to a comprehensive package of preventive examinations at their local outpatient clinic, in close proximity to their homes. The program is aimed at the early detection of risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and mental health problems—conditions that often develop asymptomatically but may have serious health consequences.
The reopening of the restored outpatient clinic was also attended by representatives of the Mécénat Servier Foundation, including Barbara Fritsche, Philippe Malet, and Benjamin Abdili.
“Today, the clinic is once again welcoming patients today. For Mécénat Servier, this project is about people—ensuring that communities have access to medical care and can continue their daily lives despite the war.”
The implementation of this initiative is an example of systematic work with international partners to restore healthcare infrastructure damaged as a result of the war, in particular to ensure patients' access to high-quality and uninterrupted medical care under all circumstances.
As a reminder, efforts to restore healthcare facilities damaged by the war are ongoing across Ukraine.
For reference, UNITED24 is the official fundraising platform launched by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in May 2022 to raise funds in support of Ukraine. In just over 3.8 years of operation, the UNITED24 platform has raised more than USD 3.4 billion from over 140 countries worldwide. UNITED24 ambassadors include Barbra Streisand, Liev Schreiber, Mark Hamill, Mark Strong, and others.
