Over 4,400 war-affected Ukrainians evacuated for treatment abroad
For two years of full-scale war, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, together with the European Commission, WHO, and other partners, has been organizing evacuation flights for injured Ukrainians to be treated abroad.
In total, 4,417 people have been evacuated, including patients with mine injuries, those in need of prosthetics, and cancer patients. In addition, more than 600 children with injuries and cancer are among the evacuees.
To date, more than 30 countries have already accepted Ukrainians for treatment, including Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, and others.
The leading countries in terms of the number of evacuations for our citizens are the following:
- Germany — 1078 people;
- Poland — 383 people;
- Norway — 347 people.
As a reminder, the attending physician or family doctor refers patients for treatment abroad based on established criteria. To confirm compliance with the criteria, you need to ask your doctor for a completed form No. 027/о “Extract from the medical record of an outpatient (inpatient) patient”.
According to the evacuation algorithm, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine verifies the data and promptly informs the EU countries and the European Economic Area (EEA) about the need to evacuate Ukrainian citizens through the European Commission’s emergency response system. The partners then accept the request of the Ministry of Health and provide proposals for the evacuation of citizens.

Currently, there are several routes of medical evacuation for treatment abroad, namely:
- through the regional health department;
- by submitting a personal application through the website of the Ministry of Health in the “For Citizens” section;
- for military personnel - by applying for evacuation abroad through the command of the Medical Forces of Ukraine.
