“Outpatient clinics on wheels”: 19 oblasts received special mobile medical vehicles for community visits and diagnostics

The 19 special vehicles operate as mobile medical clinics and have already been received by the regional Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Together with doctors, the vehicles travel to remote communities. In mobile outpatient clinics, medics provide services for the prevention and testing of HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They can also conduct medical examinations, rapid laboratory tests, and vaccinations.

The vehicle is equipped with autonomous water supply, air conditioning, heating, electricity (generator), a mini-fridge for medical devices and vaccines transportation and storage. A permanent Internet connection provides medics with access to patients’ medical records through the electronic healthcare system (EHCS). Specialized cars for the regions were purchased as part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Global Fund through UNICEF, and the equipment was provided by the Center for Public Health.

As a reminder, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in cooperation with the regional health departments, conduct monthly on-site medical examinations, vaccinations, and rapid testing for the population in all regions of Ukraine. For the most part, mobile medical teams travel to remote communities and settlements.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention operate in each oblast. They carry out epidemiological surveillance and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and are responsible for immunization of residents in their regions.
