National Action Plan for implementation of international health regulations in Ukraine approved

Today, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the National Action Plan for the implementation of international health regulations in Ukraine was approved. The national plan was developed with the aim of developing an effective system of international cooperation for emergency response, and implementation of organizational health measures aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of diseases on the territory of Ukraine.

“Ukraine is step by step implementing the best international experience in responding to public health emergencies aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of diseases associated with an infectious, chemical or radioactive agent. For many years, we, as a state, have been making a lot of efforts to form a reliable public health system and intersectoral cooperation between a wide range of stakeholders,” said Health Minister Viktor Liashko. “With the support of the WHO Regional Office, a joint external assessment of Ukraine’s capabilities was conducted within the framework of international health regulations, which identified a number of critical points that need to be improved.” 

The implementation of the plan will create a reliable system of cross-sectoral cooperation in responding to public health emergencies, form an appropriate legal framework that will enable Ukraine to exercise all rights and obligations in accordance with the requirements of international health regulations in Ukraine.
