Medical University of Vienna, Republic of Austria, and Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in September 2023.
The collaboration is focused on the field of pharmacology, with an emphasis on the synthesis of novel molecules that can detect tumor cells in hematology and blood oncology.
As part of this partnership, four students completed internships in Vienna in early July 2024.
- The Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic, and Bioorganic Chemistry at Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University is engaged in active scientific collaboration with the research group of Professor Robert Kralovics at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of Vienna. The research focuses on studying the mechanisms of antitumor activity of heterocyclic compounds as potential therapeutic agents. This collaboration has resulted in the publication of several articles in leading scientific journals, including:
- Pecquet, C., Papadopoulos, N., Balligand, T., Chachoua, I., Tisserand, A., Vertenoeil, G., ... & Constantinescu, S. N. (2023). Secreted mutant calreticulins as rogue cytokines in myeloproliferative neoplasms. Blood, 141(8), 917–929.

Staff of the Department of Normal Anatomy have also achieved success in implementing international research projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Medical University of Vienna (Republic of Austria). One such project is titled “Henryk Kadyi and the Anatomy Departments of the Universities of Vienna, Krakow, Prague, and Lviv – a Model of Joint European Scientific Networks”, led by Professor Lesia Mateshuk-Vatseba.
