Medical professionals from Ukraine completed a practical course on helicopter emergency medical care in Poland

Another group of 10 Ukrainian emergency medicine professionals completed a ten-day practical training on helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) in Warsaw.  

Of the ten days of the course, three are devoted to working on helicopters as part of Polish air teams. In addition, during the training, specialists practiced practical skills of working on the ES135 helicopter:

  • loading patients on board a helicopter;
  • actions in case of sudden cardiac arrest on board of a helicopter and transferring the patient to an ambulance;
  • departure for sudden circulatory arrest, road accidents, burns, injuries, etc.;
  • cooperation with paramedics in the ambulance and firefighters.

First ladies of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and of Poland Agata Kornhauser-Duda initiated a project to train medical workers.

This is the fourth group of Ukrainian specialists who have adopted the knowledge and unique experience of Polish colleagues in the aeromedical evacuation of victims. In general, due to cooperation with the Republic of Poland, 40 specialists of the state institution “Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Cherkasy regional centers of emergency medical care and disaster medicine passed the HEMS course.

The last group of 11 medical professionals will be trained in late March – early April.
