Losses of the medical system in more than 23 months of war: russia damaged 1523 medical facilities and destroyed 195 more

As of early February 2024, as a result of the full-scale war waged by russia against Ukraine, 1523 medical facilities were damaged and another 195 were destroyed.

For almost two years now, the russian army has been systematically shelling and bombing peaceful cities and attacking Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, etc.

As a result of hostile shelling, medical facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts suffered the greatest losses. Currently, it is impossible to obtain full information about Luhansk oblast.

Also, since the beginning of the war, the russian army has damaged 103 ambulances, destroyed 258 vehicles and captured 125 ambulances.

However, despite the ongoing full-scale war and the strain on the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and its partners continue to work to restore Ukraine’s medical infrastructure. This is to ensure that Ukrainians have access to the necessary and high-quality medical care.

In particular, 502 medical facilities have already been fully restored, and another 362 have been partially rebuilt or are in the process of being restored.

These are primarily medical facilities that have suffered minor damage, such as broken windows or damage to the roof, facade, etc. Most of the restored medical facilities are in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv oblasts. Reconstruction work will continue.

It should be recalled that recently, two more outpatient clinics of the Primary Health Care Center of the Derhachi City Council in Kharkiv oblast, which had been heavily damaged by massive russian shelling, were restored.
