Children’s Hospital in Brovary is equipped with solar panels to improve its energy efficiency
The Brovary Children’s Hospital has completed the installation and put into operation 108 solar panels with a total capacity of 585 watts. The project was implemented with the assistance of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which was involved in the selection of the hospital, as well as joint efforts by local authorities, the Brovary Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, and Polish partners from the Yellowblue Force Foundation. The solar power plant was installed as part of the Light for Hospitals program implemented by the Yellowblue Force Foundation and the NGO Ecoclub.
Last autumn and winter, during russia’s massive missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukrainian communities, including those in Kyiv oblast, experienced emergency power outages. So now hospitals across Ukraine are being strengthened and equipped with power equipment. Such measures will ensure stable and autonomous operation of healthcare facilities during emergencies, guarantee greater energy security for hospitals, and allow them to use solar energy as a power source and accumulate it.
Under the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the Restoration and Green Transformation of the Energy System of Ukraine, medical institutions will be able to implement the mechanism of active electricity consumption. Hospitals usually produce electricity for their own needs. However, now, when more electricity is generated than consumed, the excess can be sold to the grid. According to indicative estimates, this will allow hospitals to save about 5-10% of their costs.
Currently, more than 90 Ukrainian healthcare facilities already have solar stations with panels. A total of 200 healthcare facilities are expected to be equipped with solar stations by the end of the year.
Today, thanks to the efforts of the state, the community, international partners, and donors, it is possible to introduce modern green technologies and strengthen Ukrainian medical institutions despite the war.
As part of the procurement of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, the Energy Community Secretariat, in cooperation with the project manager Urban Technology Alliance LP, has announced three new tenders for renewable energy projects in Ukraine. The solar stations will be installed at the Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital for War Veterans, the Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine in Zhytomyr Oblast, and the Primary Health Care Center of the Kotsiubynske Village Council in Kyiv Oblast.
In total, a list of 40 healthcare facilities has been approved for the installation of energy equipment. Preparatory work is underway at these facilities, and other tenders for the works will be announced soon. The projects will be financed by the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine supports the installation of solar power plants for the needs of medical institutions, which will help them become energy-independent and save money on utility bills. The Ministry expresses its gratitude to all partners for their assistance and effective cooperation. Together we are building an energy-independent and environmentally sustainable future for Ukraine.
