Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany) and Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (Ukraine)
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the International Medical Partnership Conference held in Kyiv on May 22, 2024, with the participation of the First Lady of Ukraine and the Minister of Health of Ukraine.
As part of the memorandum, Lviv National Medical University received equipment for conducting polysomnography and integrating virtual reality technologies into clinical practice—specifically targeting the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in both veterans and civilians.
In 2024, the department’s staff achieved the following through this cooperation:
- 49 PTSD patient consultations at the department’s clinical bases.
- Implementation of brain stimulation methods—including transcranial magnetic stimulation—into a comprehensive PTSD therapy model (on a clinical base using the provided equipment).
- 1 training in NET therapy (Narrative Exposure Therapy).
- 2 trainings on the use of VR technologies in PTSD treatment.
Planned activities include:
- Supervision and certification in NET therapy.
- Enrolling PTSD patients in clinical research on integrating VR technologies into PTSD treatment protocols.
Staff training in polysomnography, and the establishment of a Sleep Laboratory at the University Clinic. One of the lab's focus areas will be the study of sleep disorders related to PTSD.
