Atlas Institute for Veterans and Their Families (Canada) and the Lisova Polyana Veterans Mental Health and Rehabilitation Center (Ministry of Health of Ukraine)
A Memorandum of Understanding on international medical partnership between the institutions was signed during the official visit of Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, to Ottawa in September 2023.
Both institutions specialize in the field of psychological recovery and rehabilitation for military personnel.
This partnership is highly relevant for Ukraine, as Canadian experts are recognized specialists in veterans' mental health and will share their experience with evidence-based practices for restoring psychological well-being and supporting the reintegration of service members and their families into civilian life.
The collaboration between the Canadian and Ukrainian institutions envisions the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the field of veterans’ mental health and rehabilitation, joint development and adaptation of informational resources on veterans' mental well-being, training for professionals, the establishment of scientific cooperation, and the implementation of joint research initiatives.
Furthermore, the partnership aims to consolidate efforts toward the deinstitutionalization of specialized psychiatric care in Ukraine in line with leading international approaches.
