A leading university in Greifswald, Germany, and the Chernihiv Regional Psychoneurological Hospital have signed a new memorandum of international medical partnership. It should be noted that this is the fourth memorandum signed between healthcare institutions in Chernihiv oblast and the German state of West Pomerania as part of the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

The first memoranda between the institutions were signed during the visit of Bettina Martin, Minister of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, to Kyiv on May 9 during the Second International Summit of Cities and Regions.

Today, cooperation between Ukrainian and German healthcare institutions is actively developing. The signing of a new memorandum between the Chernihiv Regional Psychoneurological Hospital and the University of Greifswald has become the basis for strengthening the mental health sector.

The University of Greifswald is one of the oldest universities in Germany and the Baltic Sea region. The university consists of five prestigious faculties, which are divided into institutes and clinics. These include the Faculties of Medicine, Philosophy, Theology, Law, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

The memorandum envisages the exchange of experience in the field of mental health, the implementation of European standards and protocols for the provision of medical care, joint research, educational activities, internships between Ukrainian and German specialists, etc.

It should be recalled that the international medical partnership initiative was launched last year at the Third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen under the patronage of First Lady Olena Zelenska. At that time, 25 Ukrainian hospitals got “twin” hospitals in different countries to share experience and best practices. During the year, the number of signed memorandums of cooperation under the international medical partnership initiative doubled.

Today, 38 advanced hospitals from 19 countries are twinned with Ukrainian medical institutions. These include the United Kingdom, France, Moldova, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Israel, Sweden, North Macedonia, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Romania, Turkey, and others.

The partnership involves 32 Ukrainian medical institutions from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Ternopil, Zakarpattia oblasts and the city of Kyiv.

Today, thanks to the strengthening of international medical partnerships, Ukrainian doctors can exchange experience with their foreign colleagues, and the medical sector is developing at all levels. The experience gained will be implemented in the best practices of providing medical care to Ukrainian patients.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine expresses its gratitude to all Ukraine’s partners and twinned hospitals that, despite the war, continue to strengthen cooperation and exchange experience with Ukrainian doctors. Such training and best practices will allow us to provide the most modern and effective assistance to those in need.

It should also be recalled that the fourth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen was recently held at the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska. The central issue of the event was the safety of children and youth during war, in the family, at school, in cyberspace, and in the environmental dimension.
