Acıbadem Altunizade Clinic (Turkey) and the Regional Medical Center for Family Health (RMCFH) of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council (Ukraine)
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in January 2024 during another visit of Professor Hakan Ağır to Dnipro.
Within the framework of this international collaboration, conducted under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, Professor Hakan Ağır from the Turkish Acıbadem Altunizade Clinic visits the Regional Medical Center for Family Health every three months.
Over the course of nearly a year, Professor Ağır has:
- Consulted 126 patients
- Performed 67 surgeries, saving the lives of dozens of children and adults—primarily in the field of craniofacial surgery for congenital malformations
One particularly remarkable case involved a 62-year-old patient who had been battling facial skin cancer for 15 years. Despite numerous treatment attempts, the cancer had spread across half of her face. She was referred to the RMCFH, where, together with maxillofacial and neurosurgeons, Professor Hakan successfully removed the tumor and performed a highly complex facial reconstruction using a free microvascular flap from the abdomen. The patient is now recovering and preparing for the next stages of aesthetic correction.
To date, more than 200 joint surgeries have been performed under the partnership, most of them involving reconstructive and plastic surgery, as well as tumor removal in children. Several rounds of training for plastic surgeons and oncologists from the RMCFH have taken place at Acıbadem in Turkey.
Future plans include launching a scientific project on the treatment of craniofacial anomalies in children and continuing joint surgical missions in Lviv.
