159 Transplants Performed in Ukraine Since the Beginning of 2026 — First Quarter Results

In the first three months of 2026, 159 organ transplants were performed across 18 transplant centres in Ukraine — a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. Seventy percent of transplants were made possible thanks to deceased donation.

The highest numbers of organ transplants since the beginning of 2026 were recorded at the First Medical Union of Lviv (43), the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center of Surgery and Transplantology (23), and the Kyiv City Medical Centre (20).

Ukrainian doctors performed kidney, liver, and heart transplants. The largest number of heart transplants was carried out at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (12). The leader in liver transplants was the Oberig Clinic, with 18 procedures performed. The highest number of kidney transplants was recorded at the First Medical Union of Lviv (26). At the same time, the transplant team of the Centre of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery performed its first-ever paediatric heart transplant.

Currently, 3,957 patients are on the national transplant waiting list. Of these, 2,389 require a kidney transplant, 734 a heart transplant, 739 a liver transplant, 57 a lung transplant, 4 a heart-lung transplant, 16 a kidney-pancreas transplant, 5 a kidney-liver transplant, and 1 a liver-heart transplant.

The number of hematopoietic stem cell transplants is also increasing. In the first quarter of 2026, 126 such procedures were performed in 13 medical institutions, including 13 in children. This is a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.

The largest numbers of bone marrow transplants were performed at Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital (26), Cherkasy Clinical Oncology Center (24), and the Kyiv City Medical Centre (20).

The most complex procedures — transplants from unrelated donors — were carried out by teams at Okhmatdyt and the Cherkasy Regional Clinical Center of Oncology, Hematology, Transplantology and Palliative Care.
