Ukraine Received 100,000 Doses of the COVID-19 Janssen (Jcovden) Vector Vaccine Under COVAX
The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) has delivered 100,000 doses of Janssen (Jcovden) COVID-19 vector vaccine to Ukraine as part of the COVAX international initiative.
It should be recalled that Ukraine has already received the first 100 thousand doses of the Janssen (Jcovden) vaccine in August of this year.
Over the past week, more than 4.8 thousand new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine and more than 2.5 thousand people were hospitalized. Vaccination is the only way to protect yourself from severe course and death from coronavirus disease.
Janssen is a Johnson & Johnson vector vaccine developed by Janssen. It has the trade name Jcovden. The vaccine is intended for people over the age of 18. In Ukraine one dose is administered for primary immunization, then it is necessary to do booster vaccinations.
It should be recalled that since the beginning of a full-scale war Ukraine has been receiving vaccines against coronavirus disease only for free within the limits of COVAX. The COVAX initiative aims to ensure fair and equal access to COVID-19 vaccines for every country in the world.
COVAX's work is coordinated by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations CEPI), and UNICEF is working with manufacturers and partners on the procurement and logistics of COVID-19 vaccines. COVAX works with civil society organizations, vaccine manufacturers, and governments in the United States, Great Britain, the European Union, the World Bank, and others.
WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, the EU, the United Kingdom, and USAID continue to support Ukraine in getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic during the war and humanitarian emergencies. Due to COVAX supplies, Ukrainians will be able to continue receiving protection from coronavirus disease.
The delivery of the Janssen (Jcovden) vaccine became possible with financial support from the UK.
