The Ministry of Health, together with WHO, is developing solutions for improving and developing cancer care
The working group on improving and developing cancer care together with experts from the WHO Office in Ukraine discussed the draft National Cancer Control Strategy for the period up to 2030 and the operational plan for its implementation in 2023-2025.
First Deputy Minister of Health Serhii Dubrov noted that the Ministry of Health is working to bring the legislation of Ukraine closer to the law of the European Union. To this end, in order to form national policies, the Ministry asked the WHO office in Ukraine to conduct expert consultations to take them into account when preparing the strategy. The deputy minister thanked the WHO representatives for their active work and readiness to help Ukraine.
In turn, Marilys Anne Corbex, Senior Technical Officer for Oncology at the WHO Regional Office for Europe, expressed full support for Ukraine in developing and adopting the strategy and in further developing a capable network of cancer facilities.
It should be recalled that oncological diseases are one of the most difficult challenges for the healthcare sector, in particular, due to the growing number of cases, difficulties in early diagnosis, complex treatment, etc.
To gradually reduce morbidity and mortality caused by cancer, improve the quality of life of patients, and ensure the provision of affordable high-quality medical services in Ukraine, a draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On approval of the National Cancer Control Strategy for the period up to 2030” and “Operational plan for the implementation of the National Cancer Control Strategy in 2023-2025” have been prepared, which are currently being finalized taking into account the specifics and conditions of martial law.
For better interaction and technical coordination with international experts, the working group included the coordinator from the WHO Office in Ukraine, the national coordinator for noncommunicable diseases Andrii Skipalskii.
