Online meeting of the Minister of Health with the EU Commissioner for health and food safety was held

On December 6 Health Minister Viktor Liashko, together with First Deputy Minister Oleksandr Komarida held an online meeting with EU Commissioner for health and food safety Stella Kyriakides.

Issues of continuing medical evacuation of Ukrainians to the EU countries, assistance of EU countries to the medical system of Ukraine were discussed during the meeting, in particular, providing hospitals with alternative energy sources that should help them pass the winter period and ensure the provision of necessary medical services to patients and the creation of appropriate conditions for their stay in hospitals.

Viktor Liashko thanked international partners for the support that has been provided since the beginning of the full-scale war unleashed by the russian federation, and stressed that the total amount of humanitarian aid provided by EU member states exceeds 80 thousand tons, half of which is health care assistance.

“We are grateful for the assistance that the European Union provides to Ukraine and the medical system in particular. The support of the European community and you as European Commissioner is extremely important for us. The Government of the country, the President, and medical professionals highly appreciate the support that continues to be provided, and are focused on fulfilling our European integration obligations as quickly and responsibly as possible in order to become a full-fledged member of the European Union,” the Minister of Health said.

For reference: now almost 1.5 thousand Ukrainians have already been evacuated to the EU countries.  Germany (577), Poland (182), and Lithuania (112) received the most Ukrainians in the medical evacuation.
